Byron,

Who makes money? The server maker in this server concentric world. And that's Microsoft, Sun, EMC because they provide the backbone to this world.

So, is SUNW going to build the h/w to run the MSFT server s/w, or is it going to be EMC?

-BGR.

Microworkz.com Begins Delivery of its $299 WEBzter PC

Low-cost manufacturer hits the mark in pledge to ship more than 100,000 computers

SEATTLE, April 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Today is ''D-Day'' at Microworkz.com Computer Corporation, the start-up that last month rocked the computer market with the introduction of WEBzter, a full-featured Windows® PC family priced starting at only $299.

That's a ''D'' as in Delivery.

According to Rick Latman, President and CEO of Microworkz.com, ''Without having to make any apologies for delays, we are pleased to announce that the shipping of WEBzters begins April 19.''

On the day that the WEBzter computer was announced to the media on March 15, Latman assured the millions of interested visitors to his company's Web site that the industry's lowest cost computer would be available for shipping in mid-April. ''We delivered on that promise,'' added Latman, ''and we expect to meet all manufacturing and shipping deadlines going forward.''

Bundled with a year of unlimited Internet access and Corel's WordPerfect® Suite software, WEBzter is the flagship product behind Microworkz.com's ''Everyone Deserves a Computer'' initiative which aims to bring PCs and the Internet to the 55% of U.S. households which are still without computers.

''By introducing WEBzter at $299, we've put Web access within reach for a huge number of people that just couldn't afford it before,'' said Latman. ''We've priced our computers at a point where we can effectively demolish the socioeconomic barriers between the 'data-haves' and the 'data have-nots.' And with a year of Internet access valued at roughly $240, the effective net price of the WEBzter computer itself is only about $50.''

The $299 WEBzter Jr. is powered by a Cyrix 300 MII processor and includes 32MB of SDRAM, a 3.2GB hard drive, a K56 v.90 voice modem, 2MB onboard video, a 16-bit 3D sound processor, a USB port, 2 serial ports and 1 parallel port, keyboard and mouse, Microsoft® Windows 98, Corel WordPerfect Suite 8, and one year of unlimited Internet access through a major national Internet service provider. All WEBzter PCs are backed by a one-year hardware warranty.

The two other entrants in the WEBzter family are the $499 WEBzter and the $699 WEBzter Sr. At $499, the WEBzter model ups the processor to a Cyrix 366 MII and the hard drive to 4.3GB, and adds 8MB AGP video, a 24x CDROM, a 1.44MB floppy drive, a dual-amplified speaker system, and a game port. At $699, WEBzter Sr. includes all of WEBzter's features but boosts the CPU to an AMD K6-2 400, the hard drive to 6.4GB, the CDROM speed to 40x, and the memory to 64MB.

''WEBzter is definitely the right computer for kids, grownups, families, singles, couples, retirees, and anyone else who is just plain old tired of missing out on the Internet and email,'' said Latman. ''We also hope to put WEBzters in a lot of the schools that, disappointingly, are still data- deprived.

WEBzter PCs are assembled in the United States at Microworkz.com's manufacturing facilities in the Seattle area. The company has the capability to produce 200,000 computers per month. The WEBzter PC family went into pre- production in mid-March and jumped into full production earlier this month. The new computers will be publicly demonstrated today at Spring Comdex in Chicago.

In addition to Corel and Earthlink, Microworkz.com continues to build on Strategic Partnerships with some of the best names in the computer industry. Microworkz.com announced at COMDEX the addition of four new Strategic Partners to the WEBzter program: Samsung, Hyundai, Planetworkz and UPS.
