Ah, the Alternative Minimum Tax. My dad has been tagged with this one, but my method to defeat it always has worked: don't make any money. I think "tax reform" gave us this little gem. Our beloved elected officials get this stuff passed by making sure that it affects only a limited portion of the populace. That way there isn't a large angry crowd that wants to kill them, just a small one. And somehow I suspect that the truly wealthy, especially those with Large Campaign Contributions, aren't affected by it.
