Sarmad -- The strength of the yen represents a flow of funds from the US to Japan caused by the rotation of money from US to Japanese markets. They appear to be bottoming while we appear to be topping and most funds are way overweight in the US and way underweight in Japan.

As for being 'cheerful' I expect to do well in a volatile market -- including one that more or less collapses for the time being. I have enough exposure to metals to weather this storm. Cyclicals will not hold up for long. We will have to see where interest rates go, but earnings in cyclicals are not all that likely to go sailing up at this point -- a hollow frontier.
