Higgs - RE: "Rumor is that NSM is getting out of x-86 microprocessor business. It will focus on info appliances only."

Didn't NSM retool one of their fabs just to make Cyrix chips?

Anyways, who would want Cyrix? IBM says the "PC is dead", Compaq has its own problems, and Motorola has a deal w/AMD. Maybe one of those European semiconductor companies like Philips Electronics?

Though, if true, it has some positive implications for AMD's competitive environment; but, I regard it as less than entirely a positive development, since it leaves AMD almost completely alone in the arena and, as such, a lone target and somewhat less credible.

It, also, can make any position that the FTC or the Justice Department
may want to take stronger.

Duopoly anyone?

ALSO re: "Rumor is that NSM is getting out of x-86 microprocessor business."

Given the corporate cultures involved, if some talent is to be attracted, more of some of the good people may want to go over to AMD than to iNTEL. I hope that AMD has the money and option plans to attract the good ones.
