My somewhat personal view of big boys and smart money.

Big boys sell me stock just before it reverses down and smart money buys it back from me just before it reverses up.<g>

Hey there pork dude,

Just go research how much of every dollar, of let's say $100, that goes into an Index mutual fund, goes to buy MSFT or GE. Then look at how many dollars the bottom 100 on the S&P 500 get and you should quickly come to your own conclusions about the power of the Big Boyz.

As to who they are, well it's arbitrary and capricious for sure. At the end of February, 57 U.S. companies had a market cap of more than $40B. Today, the the number probably decreased a few. But, these few companies represent a significant percentage (i.e. 40%) of all the public equity in this country.

As to smart money, I'm not yet convinced. However, as with all other pursuits in life, if you are a leader, rather than a follower (an assumption that there is a reason), you gain a significant advantage in the Market. If you can open your mouth and move a market, through your words or deeds, the advantage should be obvious. But then, I'm just jealous. <g>
