A new era. A new thread???

The recent run to $9.00 on the backs of several mutual fund purchases and some of David's comments got me thinking. Are people beginning to recognize what we ourselves only recently realized? That Identix is transforming into an INTERNET company.

The merger with Identicator will give Identix a significant lead in the bio-id market for e-commerce. Soon personal digital certificates and smartcards will be protected by IDX's biometric security. To recognize the graduation of Identix to a new phase of life, I believe we should change the thread anchor to highlight IDX's relationship to the internet and e-commerce. Unfortunately, only the thread founder can change the anchor post and he appears to be long gone. Therefore, I suggest we start a new thread on April 26th or 27th when the merger is approved to signify this momentous event in the life of Identix.

The new anchor post would highlight the major operating components of IDX, with special emphasis on bio-id and e-commerce. We can use the new post to answer some of the basic background questions that all the new shareholders will be asking.

I have been around this thread since the beginning. I remember spending hours on the hyperlink library post #1000. I think the Identicator merger is significant enough to warrant a new thread and new anchor post.

NOW WHO IS WITH ME?

Here's the text of a (long) keynote address at the recent Compaq conference by Eric Schmidt of Novell. The whole thing is worth reading as background, but if you don't have 20 minutes to kill, word search for "finger" and read the demonstration dialogue on using the Novell/Compaq system -- and don't forget to read all the way through to the mention of Digital Me:

compaq.com

Here's an excerpt I found especially interesting:

"I'm actually using a piece of technology developed by Compaq in conjunction with Novell, and this actually stores the user's fingerprint."

Of course, that refers to the IDT product. We knew about Compaq's involvement, but not Novell's. Helps tie this all together, doesn't it? Incidentally, I saw Schmidt's name pop up in speculation over who may get the Compaq CEO job, which is now open.
