DJ, I kind of like Network Associates. Yes, I hated Mcafee when it was soaring, but now it looks like reasonable value. They have earnings, they sell for a decent pe ratio, and they provide needed services in a growing but competitive area.

I like the fact that they own PGP (probably the most widely
used personal cryptography package), but they've been too pricey
for me the times I've checked 'em out. Thanks for the heads up.

(US-resident US citizens interested in a free version of PGP
can get it from:
web.mit.edu

PGP probably carries a lot of goodwill as one of the oldest, best-established
crypto packages, but making money off this goodwill will probably
require continued loosening of export restrictions, which have been
loosening but probably not to the degree required... crypto which
smoothly integrates with widely-used email systems, or even operating
systems (which I would imagine would require rather close integration
with the OS to make really secure, as OS's tend to make copies and caches of stuff all over the place) could make some dough...
anyway it's a good sign of their smarts that NETA acquired this.
Will put on the watchlist for the summer sale season.

Cheers,

HB
