Learning from my mistakes.

About 3 weeks/1 month ago I decided to try my hand at options. I had read a bit about them and I wanted to try them out. At first I only bought 1 call contract and swore I wouldnt get too heavily involved until I really had tested the waters and leanred a bit. Well after the first one did reasonably well after a couple of days I tried buying 2 more calls of a different company. These exploded and within a week I had thrown caution to the wind and was buying options left and right. Another week went by and I had 5 baggers, 6 baggers etc. Everything was going through the roof, and within 2 and 1/2 weeks I had almost doubled my portfolio. I was flying high and before I knew it I had everything in options except a couple of nominal positions.
Well, let me tell you that not only did my 100% 2 week profit vanish in 3 days but also about 50% of my original (and only) capital. Over the course of 4 trading days my portfolio was slashed by 75%!
Now the problem is that I have all these options, many of which are so far out of the money that it is going to take one hell of a move to get back what I put in. Even on a day like today when alot of the nets are coming back my options are not moving that dramatically (at least in comparision to where they were a few days ago). I sold some this morning at a significant loss but I am holding the vast majority.
Obviously, I made a big mistake here and now I am just trying to preserve capital so I can continue to own and trade something.

I am writing this to show everyone who is interested in options what the consequences can be. I am not telling people to not invest in options; not at all. I still plan to. Just be careful because they can turn on a dime and the next thing you know there is little chance of recovery.

God I wish these lessons werent so expensive.

over and out,

aya (bleeding bad and reeling but still hopeful)
