E-Commerce Remains Strong Following Dramatic Holiday Shopping Season, Cybercash Figures Suggest
CyberCash Transaction Volume Remains Up After Dramatic Jump During 1998 Holiday Shopping Period
RESTON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 20, 1999-- CyberCash, Inc. (NASDAQ:CYCH - news), the world leader in e-commerce technologies and services, today indicated that Internet payment transactions processed by the company have remained at levels near those at the height of 1998 holiday shopping season.

According to CyberCash, transaction volumes increased by about 30 percent from the day after Thanksgiving until Christmas, and have dipped by no more than 5 percent since that time.

''Everyone agrees that e-commerce came of age during the 1998 holiday shopping season,'' said Jim Condon, president and chief operating officer, CyberCash. ''The only question remaining was, 'Would people continue to shop on the Internet after the holidays were over?' Based on our numbers, at least, I think we can safely say they are.''

According to Condon, physical world merchants usually see a significant drop-off in business during the months following the year's busiest shopping period. That, he says, hasn't happened on the Internet.

''If these statistics tell us anything,'' Condon added, ''I think they tell us that, for the most part, people enjoyed their experience shopping online during the holidays and have kept it up. That's a very good omen for the continued growth of e-commerce.''

The future of e-commerce will be the focus of CyberCash founder and chief executive officer Bill Melton's keynote address in Chicago at Comdex Spring '99 on Wednesday, April, 21.
