NETA is one of the worst offenders in the area of dubious merger accounting . The stock is down because of fears that, with the SEC cracking down in this area, NETA will have to restate these results.

MISSED THE EDITING WINDOW: EDITED version with changed figures:

Re earnings, decent p/e ratio: for some reason
I'm unable to access recent (1999) 10q/k's at edgar
online for NETA. However, based on figures from
elsewhere on the web, it looks like trailing earnings
were $1.54 for the year ended Dec 1998. Do you know
the most recent quarter's figures, or are they announced
yet? (Yahoo's quote site claims a p/e of 58.65... suggesting
what one has always susepcted, that these figures suck.)

UPDATE:
OK, now I've gote the latest version of the 10K, filed on April 15,
1999, which restates the
financials based on changes in accounting for acquisition costs.
This now shows total earnings of $0.24 per share for calendar 1998.
That makes the Yahoo P/E of 58 about right, so I'll have to take
back my nasty remark above.

Suggests a closer look at all 10q's and k's is warranted. (Of
course, it always is!). If anyone can enlighten us on the meaning
of these changes (especially their implication for future earnings),
I'd love to hear. I guess they're responsible for the recent hammering.

Today's price around $10. Book at $5+ per share (as of Dec 98).

Hope all is well,

HB

HB, They reported 31 cents, below their lowered estimate from the 50 cents area. And they also said that Y2K was eating their lunch and next quarter will have really lousy revenues. Which is why the pe ratio is so low. I see why it has come down, but I think they are a real co. and that $10 looks cheap.
