CR Lum: That experience of yours must be very difficult to accept. I guess the caveat from now on will be -- do not place any order online unless you are sure there is enough time to execute the trade.

I found out today that the order I placed yesterday before the close, actually was filled, and I received confirmation of it this afternoon. The rep told me that there were some technical problems yesterday afternoon and they were not related to the broker, but in fact were the fault of the TSE (maybe Fleming threw a switch before walking out hahaha).

I'm starting to get the suspicion that the traders over at the TSE or some other entity along the line, is giving short shrift to orders coming from discount brokers. Maybe the folks over at the TSE want to punish people who invest through discount brokers because they are starting to effect the market, and that in turn effects the TSE traders' ability to manipulate the market for their own personal gains.

The other problem is the one Sultan alluded to, the "know your client rule". This definitely slows things down in Canada. That rule does not exist in the U.S. and there has been a lot of talk about removing it in Canada. In any event, I think the problems with discount brokers are not exclusive to any one firm, but have been plaguing all discount brokers. Over time these problems will be corrected, but in the meantime it is a big frustration.
