I'm not sure, but I think it has to do with the fact that less 'respectable' stocks have more letters in their ticker symbols. Some of the DOW components only have one letter, like G (Gillette). Perhaps LPGL wants to get more attention from the institutions.

I hope that happens.

By the way, it wasn't just LPGLY....I think some other foreign stocks did the same thing at the same time...VOCLF changed to VOCL...

Not sure exactly what drove these changes, but I think 4-letter symbols get more respect than 5-letter symbols, so I think it is a positive change...

Here's a good explanation of the symbol change...it specifically relates to some Isaeli companies that dropped the "F", but I imagine it was the same type thing with the "Y"...
