Was that 1% month over month or year over year?

You're right, I could dig up the data myself, but one of the things that's great about SI is people's willingness to make each other's research easier by sharing sources. Logical deductions from the data are important too, but without verification of the underlying data, the conclusions reached could be way off.

To me, the value in SI lies not just in providing a forum for winning arguments, but, far better, to discover the truth about investing together. If you don't think it worth your while to participate in the way that I suggest, that's your decision, of course. However, it's also true that winning arguments is a lot easier when you cite your sources, especially when the facts are in dispute.

If Compaq were the leader in their sector, and if they hadn't just canned the guy on whose watch those statements were made, then I would be a lot more inclined to trust their statements about which way industry sales are going.

And oh by the way, Japan is the world's second largest economy, and has been in one heck of a slump, so for PC sales to be increasing there seems like a pretty big deal to me.

I imagine those June 40's must be doing pretty well by now. How much further does NVLS have to drop for you to be in the black, or are you in the black already?
