To All:CNET In Ad Pact With PC Makers
SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Internet and media network CNET Inc. (Nasdaq:CNET - news) Tuesday said it signed a deal with personal computer maker heavyweights Compaq Computer Corp. (NYSE:CPQ - news), Dell Computer Corp. (Nasdaq:DELL - news), Gateway 2000 Inc. (NYSE:GTW - news) and Acer America Corp. to advertise across its Web sites, including Snap.com, its Internet navigator.
The new marketing programs are designed to increase brand awareness and generate sales leads among CNET's audience of 8.2 million technology product buyers.
The new manufacturers marketing program is patterned after CNET's similar program for merchants.
CNET tracks how its users move through the computer product buying cycle and uses the information to help capture potential buyers in their browsing and exploration stages, the company said.
CNET television programming airs on USA Network, the Sci-Fi Channel, and in national syndication, as well in 40 foreign countries. The company owns 40 percent of Snap.com, which also is owned by General Electric Co.'s NBC. CNET has stakes in Web publisher Vignette Corp. (Nasdaq:VIGN - news) and Beyond.com, the largest online software reseller.
