Exchanges, online broker-dealers scramble to expand hours

NEW YORK, April 20 — As reported Monday on CNBC, the Nasdaq market intends to begin an evening trading session late this summer. But it's not just the Nasdaq that is looking to expand the trading day. The electronic trading system known as Instinet, where broker-dealers match orders from early morning until early evening, is prepared to trade all day and all night. And it appears that's the direction that all stock trading is heading — even for individual investors.
