PM asked not to sanction further Reserve Bank gold sales
Tuesday 20 April, 1999 (8:18am WST)
Prime Minister John Howard has been called on to not sanction any further gold sales by the Australian Reserve Bank.

The ALP's Western Australian resources spokesman and Member for Eyre, Julian Grill, believes Mr Howard should give a commitment to the industry during a visit to the Goldfields today.

Mr Howard is scheduled to spend about six hours in Kalgoorlie-Boulder where he will attend a community morning tea and a Liberal Party fundraising luncheon.

Mr Grill says the Reserve Bank's decision to sell half of Australia's gold reserves nearly two years ago triggered the fall in the gold price.
