If you're right, don't give up. Remember, they're just another government agency. Oh, right, that's easy for me to say, but I did have a pro se victory in Tax Court while I was still a law student. I was cash basis, did some free-lance work for a guy with a corporation, who was accrual basis. He deducted everything he owed me in one year, but paid me in two checks, in two different years. He sent me a 1099 that showed the payments as received in the one year, then inconveniently died. I did have photocopies of the two checks, thank goodness.
