I don't really like adding to the rumor mill but tonight, on CNNFN's Digital Jam, Nokia was mentioned several times as a possible suitor on the basis of the convergence of cell phone and palm pilot. When asked about this possible merger, the Ceo of qualcom merely stated that qcom already has a cell-palm combo available. eom

Simonds: Yessssssssss! I've noticed that "Cash Mystery" also...I'll vote for such. My rationale is: We will protect our "leverage" against the Europeans...they will not be allowed to enter into our MARKET. Why give them our technology...just to return to Europe and "Shut us out"?! Even Cisco will recognize the "danger" if the Europeans get a foothold on our shores...and will most likely "lobby" against such by "contributing" $$$ to keep 3com technology "safe and secure" within the USA! 3com sits in a very strong "bargaining position"...we could easily see 50-60/sh. Hell...if Yeltsin had any "brains" he would take some of the IMF money and buy 3com...would give their economy and people a "boost"...China comes to mind also! As far as I am concerned we have a "resource" that we must protect...and that we will do! I do not think the "average" investor realizes the implications of 3com being bought out by Foreign interests! The "Foreign" interests have yet to "Open up" their Markets to us...so why should we allow a #2 Network drop into their hands? Once digested...US investors will opt to drive the price upward and out of range of offshore $$$!

Regards,
HKirby

I would have agreed with you at one point in time. However, Lou Gerstner has made it pretty clear that any major acquisitions will be in the software and service sectors.

>>I would say IBM is a better suitor than anyone else.
