This is a extraordinarily naive statement. Do you think the
analysts don't figure out income from MSFT's cash horde
before making the estimates? The question is what the
sales and earnings were compared to the analysts' models.

Guess what, Andy. Return on investments qualifies as legitimate earnings. Trust me--stick with the company that has $21 billion in cash.

The bottom line is Microsoft make profit and is sustainable quarter. It does not matter whether it sells bananas, or software, as long as the earning growth is sustainable.
Do you think GE made profit by selling bulbs worth the PE ? Well, most analysts think it worth.
The nice thing about Microsoft is its 21 Billion of cash holding and it will increase quarter after quarter, can you imagine once the cash holding hit 50 Billions, what kind of investment earning Microsoft will have each quarter ? Why Microsoft enjoy a high PE while Orcl, and Sunw can't ? Because Sunw and Orcl do not have such a huge cash position , and which do not have a huge investment earning quarter after quarter , which will make their earning growth sustainable and predictable. It is the huge cash holdings , which generated huge investment earning quarter after quarter , and which add to the bottomline of its earning and make the earning growth predictable that make Microsoft enjoy the high PE comparing to other High Tech companies which did not.

MSFT's earning is well cooked by selling their holdings. Without this huge investment income(720Millions), MSFT would missed the earning by 0.12c. This is the bottom line.

The bottom line is that the analysts' estimates already had MSFT investment income in the equation. If you would drop by this board at times other than earnings announcement, you could keep up. Instead you drop in and provide us with your very naive opinion.

That is the bottom line.
