Andy,
If Microsoft is the only company that "cooks" its books by realizing investment income, I'll bite my own ear off. All companies with large cash positions do the same thing. Why do companies buy their own shares back??? Less shares = higher profits per share because of a smaller float??? Why don't you USE your brain to figure out REAL earnings.

USE your brain to figure out REAL earning. Just think about 720Millions investment income is 1/3 of MSFT's net income this Q!. Forget about the analysts, forget about the short or long, use your brain to figure out how MSFT cooked their earning to exceed the street number.

Use your ears. The street number included MSFT investment income. You are trying to cook the numbers. The numbers are done. Everyone but you knew the recipe.
