Penni, I didn't mean to scare you. I was an only child of older parents (they were 42 when I was born) but when I heard the reports of only the poor being drafted my mindset went from avoidense to volunteering. Right is right and a mans gotta do what a mans gotta do. I also felt that I best get it over, I'd get killed or I wouldn't. That would help my parents and girlfriend chart their lives. Shit, if I got killed that would sure change my hopes.

Like I said, I'll get Ammo to Kenora, Ontario and get him a home. This is more immoral then Vietnam. Sad to say we have no leadership of the country now.

The day was darker at 12:06 than it had been at 12:05. The sun-filled Colorado afternoon became clouded with tears as the schoolyard ran bright red with the blood of our children. Twenty-five dead. I walked home past the State Capital building where a small group was gathered for a long-planned event, Take Back the Night, to battle against the violence and fear that follows our steps. The irony brought a fresh bout of tears. Our children, twenty-five dead and a thousand shaken, frightened and crying.

Numb people, those that weren't closely connected to the children at the school, walked the streets and drove home. A thousand students, two thousands parents, grandparents, siblings, and countless friends. waiting for word about the ones they loved. Sorrow and silent tears were all the rest of us could offer. A prayer for the dead and injured, and a prayer of solace for those that would end this night without their child at home.

Pardon the interruption. I'm done now. Gotta go find a smile. I can cry again when I get home. Give the boys an extra big hug tonight, even if it makes 'em grimace.
