OT Viagra's affect on women

From "Prescriber's Letter" April 1999:

WOMEN'S HEALTH

Researhers are now trying to determine whether Viagra (sildenafil) is effective for WOMEN.

Nearly one-third of women report some sexual dysfunction...lack of desire, decreased arousal, or difficulty achieving orgasm.

Viagra works by increasing blood flow to the genitals in men...researchers are hoping it will do the same in women.

Now the first published study in the journal of Urology shows that most postmenopausal women DON'T benefit from Viagra.

Some women report increased genital sensitivity...many others say it doesn't work.

Many factors may play a role in sexual dysfunction in women...declining hormone levels, impaired blood flow, neurological damage due to hysterectomy, etc.

Check to see whether postmenopausal women are taking hormone replacement therapy. Tell them that estrogen can increase vaginal lubrication...a small dose of testosterone can improve libido.
