Emeralds are not as hard as sapphire or diamond. For them to end up in a clay deposit the have to be eroded from their igneous matrix, travel a bumpy ride down a mountain and smash against every hard rock in the way...finally settling in the silt. The are best mined in hard rock. Besides although they lay claim in a way to high quality gems (not very directly) They state the stones are not of high quailty in several places on the site.
