Dell launches affiliate program

Jim:
Any idea how this program is shaping up for Dell? Heard anything?
======================

In an attempt to raise brand awareness and online sales, Dell Computer has started an affiliate program that will allow other web sites to earn commissions on sale by linking to Dell's home page. By making its products and services more readily accessible to existing and potential customers, Dell is hoping to strengthen its internet leadership. This move is expected to help Dell realize its goal of achieving 50% of its sales online by the end of the year 2000. Right now, Dell's online sales are about 25% of its total sales—reportedly about $14 million a day—and the goal is to double the percentage of online sales.

Dell's affiliate program is expected to be popular. Dell is not only a well-known company it is also into manufacturing computers, the sales of which can generate large commissions. Currently, Dell's affiliate program has approximately 50 charter members. LinkShare, which services more than 65,000 affiliate sites, will manage its affiliate program.
