corundom even when Red (ruby) is of very little value as a stone unless of near perfect quality. The rest are used for abrasives or the Television and chain store jewelry sales. Ceylon has the finest quality sapphires(blue) Sapphires also come in gold, yellow, green and any number of colors. Only red may be referred to as Ruby.

Emerald also need Chromium to make them green. Iron will make an aquamarine. I am partial to the clear Beryl as they make excellent baguettes. White Sapphires have a unique jelly like appearance that I appreciate. At one time they were used as a diamond substitute until other minerals yag and so forth became known for greater luster and refraction.
