I avoid them by having to sell into brutal drops so that the equity stays above 40%.
Monday was bad but October was a brutal one, too.


Your move is wise. Capital preservation is so important. I learned that last year being short AMZN.

but I simply don't let the equity
percentage get that low even if I am using a lot of margin, and I have been for a solid
decade now.

It seems like a dumb maneuver but it has worked like a charm.


Actually, one can get out and in to a security for so little money now, your approach makes a lot of sense.
