The Day Ahead: Reaction to earnings? Tuesday's turnaround was impressive enough and illustrates that the tech bulls may have been temporarily gored but today proved there is still plenty of life in them. The fairly broad advance among most tech issues set off by bargain hunting at lower levels was convincing to say the least. If the market can build on Tuesday's gains with another strong day Wednesday, that would go a long way towards negating Monday's particularly sharp downward thrust and would likely restore considerable confidence. It seems that we go through these periodic shakeouts and in the past the net stocks have come back stronger than ever. When one realizes that corrections, fakeouts and the rest notwithstanding, the Internet continues to add sixty thousand plus new members each day, the value of these stocks finds extra reason to be supported at higher and higher levels. In reality the net has yet to permeate the vast majority of the world's population, even in the industrialized countries and that is going to continue to happen on a steady increasing basis in the years ahead. As the Net gets more and more user friendly with video vision and video communication more the norm, the masses will really begin pile aboard this fast moving train. After a couple of days where some of the Dow's screamers of the past week or two have had a chance to pull back, they are now looking like they could be read for yet another run at the highs. A turnaround in the Dow going into the end of this week and month would be inspirationally bullish as would a rebound in the broader indices too. The next few days will be of importance in determining whether this was just a very short term head fake or whether we will have to endure further rotation in the marketplace. investorsalley.com
