Of course they beat last quarter's number. As Brinker might say, MSFT is good at lowering expectations and then beating them. He said he takes their earnings guidance 'with a grain of salt'.

- And now:

"..as has become its habit, Microsoft sounded a cautionary note for the following quarter... this time: ".. continuing to express fears of a possible slowdown in growth because of Year 2000-related issues..."

However, investors could focus on the last part of their statements: Next quarter earnings to rise, but following quarter to flatten out.

If so, stock price could pull back? We shall see...

FWIW, I went long UTEK today at $13.5. My reasons are more technical than fundamental. I still think it is too expensive relative to its prospects but the market is telling me otherwise. I am not sure if this is for a trade. Will await earnings.
