Digital Fountain will work with any storage technology. It just makes it less important to control all aspects of the delivery (jitter, latency, continuity) in order to transmit large files. You can receive the bits in any order with any interruptions and with no concern that they are the "right bits" (that's the holographic effect; the entire file pervades all the bytes). They can be video (which can be lossy) or software (which can't). The company is in Mountain View, I believe, and was started by a professor at Cal Berkeley who invented the algorithm. Caveat: the demonstrations, as far as I know, are still mostly confined to laboratories.
