Robin, you must have been vacationing in Third World I will be more cooperative than my brethren I hope this thread is not as snotty as it has seemed lately perhaps where PhD physicists roams, arrogance follows? this PhD (not physics) can toss some tidbits Uniphase is merging with JDS Fitel, a Canadian outfit whose optical product line complements UNPH beautifully, but whose customer base has zero overlap... an opportunity for tremendous research and sales synergy is loud and clear... JDS just reported this week huge earnings (sales up 85%, eps up 100%) ... JDS products deal more with the passive processing side of data transmission, UNPH more active modular large scale side... everybody at UNPH and JDS is kissing everybody I cannot judge the impact on stock sales of mergers... usually buyer sees slight slide, acquiree moderate rise... stock swap as I understand THIS THREAD IS A FORM OF RESEARCH Uniphase reports earnings on Monday after close check some earlier posts and stock newswires / jim willie
