I went to the COMDEX Sprint 99/Windows World web site and you seem to be correct. Hewlett-Packard, by far the dominant printer vendor in the world, is not listed as an exhibitor, while Tektronix is. Maybe HP is selling so many printers through www.dell.com, they don't need spend money on selling to the channel. It may also be that expenses are so tight in HP marketing that they cannot afford to go to trade shows. Of course expense control is always tight at Dell. I'm sure they measure the contribution of every marketing dollar to return on invested capital and only spend where the return is high. Looks like the channel is not a high return investment these days.
