Wasn't there a Druidic Holy day celebrated at the winter solstice that involved bringing a live tree into your dwelling an setting offerings around it.

Can't imagine what that was turned into, especially as , by historical accounts, Jesus of Nazareth was born in July.

It was good practice to let the 'pagans' keep their holy days. Just had to sanctify them a bit. Worked for 2000 years and counting...
