Applied Microsystems Corporation (AMC)(Nasdaq: APMC - news) today announced a Memorandum of Understanding with Microsoft Corporation (Nasdaq: MSFT - news) aimed at speeding up the development of embedded appliances based on the Microsoft Windows CE operating system. The parties' cooperation will result in an acceleration of the availability of AMC's development tools optimized to work with the Windows CE operating system. Applied Microsystems and Microsoft anticipate entering into final agreements reflecting the terms of the Memorandum within thirty(30) days.

The Memorandum signed today also includes arrangements for Microsoft to advance funding for further development of AMC's CodeTEST and CodeTAP(TM)
products, including many new capabilities that will enhance CodeTEST capabilities for developers of Windows CE-based applications. Development will take place
over the next six to nine months with first products to be released in June, 1999. Once completed, CodeTEST product enhancements will be available to all
developers of Windows CE through AMC.
