Muting your modem connection sound:

1) Open My Computer
2) Open Dial-up Networking
3) Right click on your connection icon (name varies on your ISP)
4) Select Properties
5) Near the bottom where it shows the device (modem) connecting to the ISP, click on the configure button
6) Select the connection tab
7) Click on advanced
8) In the 'Extra Settings' white space...add the command "M0" (Zero, not O, and don't put the "" as well)
9) Click ok everywhere else and that should mute the modem sound for that connection.
