Market history is important to traders, like military history is important to military strategists, like political history is important to politicians, etc. etc. etc.

That may be, but that clearly wasn't my point. My point is exactly that you have to be more selective when going short than going long because of the tendency of the market to go up rather than go down. No one here has shown that to be incorrect.

Good longs are like diamonds buried in the sand. But a good short can be found by the smell, even when it's not readily visible to the eye.
