Dear Victor: If CPQ gets nothing then nothing changes. So long as the new companies worth can support CPQ's investment account in them I see no write down and write ups are VERBOTEN. I see no likelyhood of a taxable event arising for anyone over this.
But to be honest, I have no idea how this IPO is being structured so these are only guesses. JDN

Hi Victor - I believe CPQ has enough booked capital asset losses from DEC to off-set any long term gains from the sale of AV assets. If you look at pg. 53 of the annual report, you will see the net write downs of the DEC assets that must be written down over time.

Also, from my quick review of the annual report, it appears that CPQ has created an accrual account for booked losses that continues to be adjusted from time to time to account for (1) sale of old assets, (2) re-valuation of purchased assets and (3) anything else they want to throw into the mix.

These are very large numbers and accordingly very large adjustments. I am sure we have not seen the last of these "one-time" adjustments. The spin off of Alta Vista and IPO valuation will help further off set these other non-performing DEC assets.

Not much positive from the cc apparently. CPQ was 'mum" on the future. If the cc was that uninformative, i don't expect any earth-shaking news from tomorrow's shareholders meeting. looks like we'd better get used to being in the low 20s for a couple months or more. El
