Complete Business Solutions, Inc. -- CBSI -- Chosen as Development Parter With NEC Corporation
FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 22, 1999-- Complete Business Solutions, Inc. (Nasdaq:CBSI - news) today announced that the company has entered into an agreement with NEC Corporation to help build their APBASE application framework. The APBASE framework supports an environment that enables NEC strategic initiatives such as its Core Banking product, which CBSI is also developing. The framework will also be used for a portfolio of future applications.

NEC expects to invest about $85 million to design, develop and deploy the APBASE project and the next generation banking software.

APBASE development will be carried out at CBSI's offshore development center in Chennai, India, and onsite at the customer's location in Tokyo. It will be done on HP's Unix platform using C, C++ and popular middleware like BEA's Tuxedo and IBM's MQ Series products. Some components will also be developed on Windows NT using Microsoft Visual C++.

NEC's Middle Software Division is responsible for APBASE and other components of their distributed application architecture -- called OpenDIOSA.

Before entering into the agreement with CBSI, senior managers at NEC's Middle Software Division evaluated CBSI over a period of nine months. The evaluation included scrutinizing all aspects of CBSI's organization including financial stability, growth potential, technical skills, project management capabilities, quality processes and commitment to a long-term relationship. The evaluation process also included executing pilot projects, which provided an in-depth assessment of the skills, performance and quality of deliverables in middleware technologies. All of these efforts culminated in the selection of CBSI as their development partner for APBASE development.

Yukio Ebino, general manager for the Middle Software division of NEC, said, ''We are indeed delighted to enter into a long-term partnership with CBSI to build software products and applications in strategic business areas that are of interest to us. What impressed us about CBSI during the evaluation process was the dedication of everyone in the organization. CBSI's international presence, project delivery and success in attracting and retaining the best talent are factors that helped confirm our decision to enter into this partnership.''

The CBS,India development center will be linked to NEC's facilities in Japan using a dedicated high-speed satellite link. It will help to create a development and testing environment that is a virtual extension of NEC's own center in Japan.

V.V. Sundaram, president and managing director at CBS,India said, ''We are really proud that NEC, a leading Japanese conglomerate having significant global market share in diverse segments, has chosen CBSI as its development partner. After completing an extensive evaluation process, NEC engaged CBSI as its long-term partner to develop business-critical applications employing client/server and object-oriented development technologies.''
