All,
The first thing that needs to be done is to spin off AV. The best way to do this is spin it off to the shareholders. The shareholders own Compaq, they own AV. If the Company holds it's own stock it will get that many shares of AV. AV does no good inside Compaq compared to it's value as a separate entity. That's a fact, Jack.
If Compaq feels frisky it could create extra shares at an IPO and pocket the money. If it was really greedy it could create even more shares and maintain a larger stake in Compaq but this would be ill advised and seen as greed and serve to over dilute the stock.
What they want to happen, IMHO, is to use AV...to 1. support Compaq stock, 2. profit from any IPO. My method would serve both ends.

Regards, Jim

Captain Jack...The CC should not
have been a surprise....

...if you read victor's post "Verbatim".

All questions were answered as..."we'll get back to you
when we look into this..."

The only concrete directions was....that Rosen saw
venture Silicon Valley Companies dress casually...now the
employees at CPQ are also allowed to dress casually.
(I see little shareholder value in this)

(The lack of social discipline does not always instill
motivation or momentum swings)

Hopefully, we don't see the following:...

April - May..."we will get back to you when we have checked into this"

May - June..."we defer those decisions until a new CEO is
in place...he/she has to have ownership of that decision"

June - July..."we are interviewing candidates and are close"
...this quarter is just a transition period"

July - August..."we have hired a candidate...please allow
him/her three months to get acquainted with the company"

August - October..."I am now acquainted and the Q3 doesn't
look so good....all EP's and EM's fault...."........"During the
Q3 CC I will detail my 1 - 2 year restructuring plan....please
be patient...."

Worst Case Scenario?????
