They get a big foot into Canada without the legal problems of going in themselves. I guess.

Personally, Ebay rumor sounds like BS to me. But if we entertain the thought further, there is one strong reason why Ebay may want to acquire BIDS: Intellectual Property. What price do you put on having the exclusive rights to the Dutch Auction patent? At the current price levels, it would be a very cheap share swap to acquire this technology plus the existing BtoB and BtoC customer base, which is one area that Ebay has not ventured into.
