There is definitely a big difference between B-C and C-C auctions. If I want other people's old junk I can walk down the street any Saturday and visit all the garage sales... but people love all that "stuff" and it has obviously worked for eBay so far. I'm personally much more interested in getting new things with full warranty.. particularly if they're bigger ticket items. I would guess that the target markets for these two auction models is quite different and you're right... eBay could enter the segment much more quickly with an acquisition. Having said that however, Godin has already stated that he is much more interested in challenging for market leadership than being bought out. I'd rather see him deliver on his vision and reap the profits then, than see them simply taken over.
