Headline: Network Solutions Leads Global Internet Identity Business

======================================================================
HERNDON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 21, 1999--

Pioneer of domain name registration system welcomes five
new testbed registrars

Network Solutions, Inc. (NASDAQ:NSOL) the pioneer of domain name
registration services, today welcomed the five testbed registrars who
represent a new level of customers to the Company.
Network Solutions continues to provide registration services in
.com, .net and .org for $70 for two years and to bundle value-added
services to help businesses and individuals establish and build an
Internet identity. The new testbed registrars are America Online, CORE
(Internet Council of Registrars), France Telecom/Oleane, Melbourne IT
and register.com. Network Solutions believes competition in the
marketplace will ultimately expand innovations around the domain name
space and thus enlarge the overall market.
"We believe the potential market to be more than 100 million
domain names," said Bob Korzeniewski, chief financial officer and
acting chief operating officer. "There is room for many successful
players and we will continue to be a leader in this space. With our
four million registrations, we have just started to tap the market's
potential."
During the 60-day shared registration testbed period, five
initial registrars will be able to register the popular .com, .net and
.org domain names and work with Network Solutions' technical personnel
to fully test the functioning of Network Solutions' newly-built Shared
Registry System. Network Solutions will charge the new registrars $18
per Web address for each initial two-year period and $9 for one-year
renewals during this 60-day period.
"Our ongoing dialogue with the U.S. Department of Commerce has
been open and constructive," said Michael A. Daniels, Network
Solutions' chairman and acting chief executive officer. "We have
agreed to this interim price in order to move the competitive process
forward. During the testbed period, we will continue to work with the
U.S. Department of Commerce to examine all other areas of mutual
concern, including final business terms such as future pricing, as we
continue to ensure the reliability and stability of the domain name
system."
Network Solutions continues to expand its service offerings
around Internet identities, providing a suite of dot com products
geared for small businesses. In the first quarter, the Company
announced the industry leaders building the company's dot com
directory,(TM) an Internet "find engine" for businesses. The company
also introduced the dot com biz card,(TM) a virtual business card for
Network Solutions' customers, and dot com forwarding,(TM) to help
businesses manage their multiple Web addresses to target various
customers. Network Solutions also offers the dot com mail (TM)
personal, portable e-mail service.

channel programs with Internet Service Providers, Web hosting and

its Affiliate Program; and signing key marketing agreements with

with the five newly named registrars on Friday, April 23. In the
