As I was typing in this reply for you the subject line stands out like a sore thumb "Subject: XIRCOM (XIRC) 5/16/95 @ 16-1/8 ". So 3 years later, XIRC stock has practically gone nowhere.

Anyway, you brought up an interesting possibility but I really doubt it if INTC is interesting in buying XIRC. It doesn't really fit into INTC's chip making business ... COMS maybe. I think INTC investment in XIRC is just to stimulate growth in the PC/laptop business so INTC can sell more CPUs.
