I don't travel so I cannot say anything on that, but during the brief period I used AOL, I did not have as many problems as you mentioned. Occasionally, I got busy signals, but not too much. The speed was also consistent for me. It mostly connected above 50K. Now my current ISP mostly connect below 50K, a little above 49K.

I agree with their cut and paste though. I read somewhere that they are working on an HTML based browser. I also got the download problem. It got disconnected saying that I was idle. In fact that was one of the reason why I stopped using AOL. But when I talked to the customer service rep, he mentioned that the tech support can help in that. I had decided to quit anyway so I did not try. You may want to ask them if anything can be done. I read somewhere that we can suppress the pop up ads by setting a preference.
