JP, for the TCI @Home service you need the new fiber optic cable to have reached your area and also need to be hooked up for cable TV. The @Home costs about $50 a month and $150 installation, not including the cable TV bill. I've been using it for about a year and a half and its always faster than my 56k modem but actual speed varies with the number of others logged on. Downloads of BIG file downloads only takes seconds, which is nice. Upload speed is 128k, same as ISDN.

PacBell offers ADSL service through your phone lines (you can still make/receive calls at the same time) but you have to be within 3,000 feet of a local phone office to get maximum speed (they can check when you call them). This type of system does not slow down when a lot of others are also logged on but you'll need to ask them about pricing. I seem to recall that its just a little more than the cable modem. Like the cable modem it requires a special card to be installed inside your PC.

Or for the terminally techno-deficient (Hi Grupo!<ggg>), there is always WebTV.
