I really don't understand the AOL vs. ATHM theme running here.

An ATHM customer can be an AOL customer by paying the $10/month fee for internet port access to AOL.

AOL's real value is in it role as a portal not as an ISP.

Now the real question is can AOL maintain it's portal position if customers aren't dialing into it first?

AOL tends to have very high internet latencies, terrible for gaming. Their censorship policies go strongly against the grain of the Internet community. And the non-existant security leaves it's users vulnerable to cyber attacks. That's why I would never use their service.

But just because I don't like their service doesn't mean it's wrong for someone else.
