Didn't they also used to use gold as a cure for siphilis?

And don't forget the Japanese like to bathe in a gold tub as a therapy.

And the Indians and Chinese and Italians use gold leaf on some foods.

<<Silver however is far from dead. Most radiography still employs film that is double sided and of course is very reliant on silver. The radiographic film industry is probably the main market for silver. Alas, digital radiology may send that the way of other precious metals in medicine.>>
Oak,

While I agree that the use of silver for radiography in man & beast is lower today and tomorrow than in prior times, you forget the many & increasing uses in our mechanical "friends". I suspect these uses may be driving the near daily surges in silver price as the "war" wages on and sorties stack one on top of another leading to heavy inspection levels. While magna-flux is used on parts, when assembled X-Rays are a must.
Just wait till the heilo's are in heavy use...
