>These under $200 must be basic low end junk. Without any extra's. Right?

Right now, yes. The E-machines selling for 399 are basically crap. But consider these component costs. (chip only, no pcb or packaging)

10/100 ethernet -- $8 from intel
TNT video 16 megs ram -- $30 from nvidia & samsung
333 mhz cpu -- $100 from intel
soundblaster 16 bit audio -- $17 from creative
intel PII chipset -- $25 from intel
cdrom -- $30 from multiple vendors

now you've only got the ram and harddrive. ram is about 200 bucks for 128 megs. the hard drive is the sticking point, an 18 gig costs about 700 bucks.

as you can see, the above components will give you a top of the line system for almost nothing, if those individual OEM chips were ever assembled on one board. (it's being done as we speak, btw)

Did no one call KIS on this computer price drop crap? Every one of you knows the prices drop like stones and will continue to for the next ten years at least. They may even accelerate if MSFT gets broken up. SO WHAT?, it will only accelerate the whole process of the web becoming an intricate part of our lives.
