But there was price attrition. They shipped 80% more MIPs YOY to get
this revenue increase. What is impressive though is that this
mainframe line shipped last year in the third quarter. It is end of
life as current line since a new line gets announced later this
month and ships in volume in May. So with a technology refresh look
for continued MIPs increases YOY but with much less price attrition
since it is brand new and demand will outstrip supply into the
third quarter. Adding to the demand picture will be installations
moved up prior to the 4Q data center freeze which some are now saying
may not be as big as previously thought though I remain conservatively
cautious on 4Q.

Toyota uses IBM "mainframe server , non-INTC inside" box for Notes

Now Jules I suspect after IBM's superior earnings yesterday you would rather not read more good news about IBM but here it is:

"April 22, 1999 (TOKYO) -- Toyota Motor Corp. introduced Notes/Domino of Lotus Development Japan Ltd. for its new email system and it plans to expand the system to accommodate 30,000 clients.

Toyota started partial operation of the system in February. It employs a System/390 G5 mainframe computer of IBM Japan Ltd. as the Notes/Domino server . The automaker is the first company in Japan to use an S/390 mainframe as a Notes/Domino server. "

Come on aboard Jules (notice the nautical jargon in anticipation of finally getting my boat now that IBM is making serious money again).

Web holds shares/options of IBM and worked on DEC equipment so you as a former Honeywell rep are welcome . Put your puts at $220 and go long on IBM .

Jules,
We've been telling you about IBM for years while you dogged it.
Are you still an Analyst? <G>
