ROUND ROCK, Tex.--DuPont Photomasks Inc. here today reported revenues of $67.2 million and a net income of $4.5 million in the company's fiscal third quarter, ended March 31. The quarter's revenues were about the same as a year ago, but DPI's net income was 42% lower than the $7.8 million reported in the same period last year.

"Demand for leading-edge products strengthened in the quarter as our customers' migration to 0.25-micron and below design rules continued," said Mike Hardinger, chairman and chief executive officer of DPI. "In addition, we saw some increase in demand at the trailing edge, indicative of an emerging recovery."

However, competition remain tough in the photomask business, according to Hardinger. "Competitive dynamics in the photomask industry continue to present a challenging business environment, with pockets of overcapacity still causing pricing pressures," he said.
