Lots of reasons someone may pay high...

Afterhours can be very strange and deceptive. If a person uses a broker to trade then the broker may screw them out of some extra commission by buying high. Sometimes a person is just trying to guarantee their offer is accepted because they are sure it will trade even higher the next day. Sometimes they just make a stupid mistake and enter the wrong number.

Strong, consistent uptrends in aftermarket (like SUNW and AOL today) can sometimes be good indicators of the stock's direction the next day. But, if some kind of news comes out in the a.m., it can turn around again before the open.

Hard to predict but nice to dream. <g>
